3 random things

Someone googled "small monsters wearing fleece jackets with bad mouths running through the sewers at night" and got my post about Thanksgiving last year. I am not making this up. And really, when you boil it down, hosting Thanksgiving really is like small monsters with bad mouths running through the sewers. Maybe without the fleece jackets. So was it a parent googling it to prove to a child that they don't exist? Or someone on drugs? Hmmmmm....

Every day for the last two weeks I have eaten a wedge of iceberg lettuce with chopped tomato and really good bleu cheese dressing. It has not worn out for me yet. I feel I could eat this every day for the rest of my life. WTF?

I have a sneaky chicken. It keeps hiding eggs in the very small shed and I don't find them for awhile and then they pile up and I have to do the water test to see if they are still good or not. It sucks to be outwitted by a bird with a brain the size of a pencil eraser.

I don't have chickens but would like to get some one day. What's the water test?

The water test.......

Gently drop an egg into a bowl of cold water. If it:

Sinks to the bottom and stays there, it is about three to six days old.

Sinks, but floats at an angle, it's more than a week old.

Sinks, but then stands on end, it's about two weeks old.

Floats, it's too old and should be discarded.

M...... if you've seen Chicken Run, you KNOW chickens are smart.

My mom used to have a few chickens who hid eggs. Gathering eggs was like an Easter Egg hunt everyday! We finally learned all the hiding places in the chicken yard.

I had to check your google hit. How funny that you were #1!

You can eat that because bleu cheese is so damn good and the iceberg lettuce is just the vehicle for the dressing.

I have sneaky ducks that currently are refusing to lay any eggs. I'll take hidden ones anyday. ;)

I just noticed -- thanks for including Cooties Cards in your list of links! Awesome! :o)

And I forgot to mention earlier, but "small monsters wearing fleece jackets with bad mouths running through the sewers at night" is just the funniest thing ever. And also a description of my home five or so years ago. :o)

At least you don't have a chicken then to discover he--she's a rooster...see farmgirlcyn

I did have a chicken that turned out to be a rooster. He is now living a lively existence with 100 hens or so at a nearby farm that sells eggs and honey.

And I'm not sure that it's a healthy craving. The bleu cheese dressing you have to scrape off the spoon it's so thick. Probably not so good for me......but oh so good. Expeically when the lettuce is super cold. The tomato supply is dwindling. I'm pretty much down to green ones that I have to ripen in a box with newspaper. It just isn't the same.

I googled too--you are #1. So funny. About your iceberg lettuce, tomato & bleu cheese...I have had an addiction for that all summer and into fall. It's called a 'Wedge' where I live and whenever it is on a menu, I try it--there are lots of ways to have it--add pears or apples (bacon!)...I make the one you make at home. Oh, boy, now I want the 'Wedge'. I get outsmarted by so many things, I wouldn't be surprised by a chicken outwitting me.

That is funny Judith. Whoever would have thought we would be craving iceberg lettuce of all things? Bacon would really put it over the top. Will have to try that. I had it for lunch and dinner yesterday. Very strange.
